German police sealed off a shopping centre in the northern city of Hamburg on Wednesday amid fears of a terror threat after media reports suggested links to the Islamic State group. Police closed the shopping centre in Germany's second largest city of Hamburg after a "concrete indication" of possible terrorist attacks, a police spokesman said.

NTV, Police spokesman Peter Elke said the search of the apartment was "directly related" to the threat posed by the shopping centre. Police in North Rhine-Westphalia, where Essen is located, declined to comment on reports of involvement in the foiled attack.

Aldi has a policy in Germany not to advertise, although a special price called "Erleninform" is distributed to stores by direct mail and often printed in local newspapers. In addition to the standard range, Aldi also accepts manufacturer vouchers, with which US stores have successfully experimented, but has no strategy against advertising vouchers for its own products.
