Rot-Weiß is a solid second- or third-division club that only spent one season in the Oberliga Nordrhein IV from 1998 to 1999. The club has a solid fan base and played mostly in lower leagues. The biggest rivalry is between them and local rival FC Essen, against whom they have played since the first encounter in the 2007 / 08 season. Another local rival is FC Schalke 04, a top club from North Rhine-Westphalia, who have played at the highest level for the last four seasons, with the last meeting between the clubs in 2008 / 09 taking place in front of over 2,000 fans at a home match.

In 1992, he was German Amateur Champion and 2006 Regional League North Champion, but missed out on remaining in the Bundesliga in 2003 by a 3-0 defeat in Duisburg. The bright spots in this time were the win of the German Amateur Championship in 1992 and the 1: 3 defeat in the DFB Cup final in 1994 against SV Werder Bremen as well as the 2: 1 victory in the first ever Bundesliga match against FC Schalke 04.

After Essen had taken the lead after only 12 seconds and had restored it for Wolves after Pernille Harder's goal, and equalised in the last minute of regulation time, Essen could not overcome Wolfsburg. They pressed aggressively and rewarded themselves with a dramatic equaliser in injury time. The shot bounced off the crossbar into the net and seemingly jumped exactly as it was, but was not worthy of an equaliser, as Ingrid Engen seemed to hinder Stina Johannes in the Essingen goal. The German world star went and went and a final you can remember, they went strong and almost willing to get out of it.

Asked if he was worried that the ground would be lost to power and money would be lost at the top, Hognener was defiant. There is no doubt that we are all about winning and how hard it is to stop us.

In 1910 Vogelheim concluded an agreement with the Turnerbund Bergeborbeck, which allowed both clubs to provide football teams. The following season BVB Essen joined the club, which, however, only played one game before the Second World War caught up with the country. They returned to the Bundesliga in 1969-70 and played four seasons from 1973-74.

During that time the club has been plagued by financial problems which have seen its licence revoked and relegation to League Two.

RWE made it to the sixteenth division in 1938 and won the division title in 1941. In 1948 the club returned to a series of solid performances which led to another district championship in 1952. The club's success culminated in 1955, when they beat the No. Since then they have played most of the time as second division teams and have managed only one league and one Bundesliga title since then.

Wolfsburg defeated Essen in the game for third place after extra time with 3: 3 after penalty shootouts, Wolfsburg had to give in in penalty shootouts. They hosted the quarter-final, which ended with a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich and a 1-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

In 2014 the situation was similar, Essen made it to the final, but the team was more mature and stronger than then and lost 3-0. We will continue to be an important part of the Bundesliga because we have a great academy approach.
